This is a 1940s vintage 8-cup DuraLux Vacuum Coffee Maker - WHAT A RARE FIND! Classic in style and inspired in functionality, No plastic, no cloth, no paper.... Absolutely nothing to interfere with the volatile oils of the extracted coffee. Just water, coffee grounds, and 2 aluminum vessels. It is truly a beautiful thing. DuraLux pots were made in Wooster, Ohio by the Buckeye Aluminum Company. It incorporated a unique filter, and was patented by a local inventor and businessman who worked for the company, Mr. Joseph E. Fishelson (patent Number D-153,342). Pieces include a bottom pot, upper pot with a rubber gasket and an internal filter piece, as well as a lid (advertised as an “all-purpose cover”) that could be used as cover for the upper pot, a pouring cover for the bottom pot, as a funnel stand for the upper pot, or as a table mat for the pot. DuraLux coffee pots were featured in Raleigh cigarette ads, and the ads provided coupons that you could save and purchase items. A DuraLux coffee pot could be obtained by smoking 425 packs of cigarettes (wow!) This version features black handles and top which (from what I’ve gleaned on the web) is considered the more desirable model. Pot is made of aluminum and the handles and top are Bakelite. Condition is fantastic for its age. The pot has some scratches, but is otherwise very shiny (see pix). There are NO DENTS. Bottom of pot features the DuraLux name This beauty is complete and comes with DuraLux glass filter rod, funnel stand, and top aluminum and bottom glass components. Included are 2 gaskets, one looks used and must have been replaced with the one installed. It pumps fine, this is a full immersion brew system that uses a constant heat source to create pressure in one chamber forcing water up into another chamber, where the coffee grounds are steeped, and then allows the brew to drain back down into the bottom chamber as the heat is removed and a vacuum forms. The brewing time and temperature are perfectly calibrated, ensuring a perfect cup of coffee with each brew. Depending on the amount of water used, you can brew delicious coffee within 5 to 11 minutes, serving anywhere from 4 to 8 cups
