Spectacular Antique Pietra Dura Sea Serpent Artist Palette Pic Frame Grand Tour

Offered here, a very fine antique pietra dura picture frame in the form of an artist's palette. A fantastical sea serpent or similar mythical creature made up from colorful natural stones and aflame with delicate foliage is masterfully inlaid into a black slate or similar surround. This is an unusual subject for a pietra dura piece, I haven't been able to find a similar example.
The piece measures 9-1/2" x 7-1/4" x 1/4" and is in very good aged condition. There are some "hairlines" and superficial surface blemishes in the top layer of slate (the piece is made up of 3 layers of slate/black stone) and a small repair at the bottom edge as shown in pictures but these small imperfections are not unusual in pietra dura of this age and do not detract from the overall excellence of the piece.
