    Description

TT PK 74a 1982 IRELAND CENTRAL BANK 50 POUNDS PCGS 67 PPQ SUPERB GEM NEW!
1982 50 Pounds from Ireland. Central Bank. Pk 74a and serial number CFK 556985. Graded 67 Premium Paper Quality Superb Gem New by PCGS. Uniquely designed note with perfect margins and nice, bold colors! Black serial number found on the front of the note. Evidence of great embossing and crispness through the PCGS holder! This note has qualities collectors search for! Kept fully intact for over 30 years! On the front of the note is Terence Carolan along with children and adults surrounding him. On the reverse side is a plethora of musical instruments.
Turlough O'Carolan, also called Terence Carolan was one of the last Irish harpist-composers and the only one whose songs survive in both words and music in significant number (about 220 of provable provenance are extant with an uncounted number apocryphally attributed). The son of an iron founder, O'Carolan became blind from smallpox at the age of 18. He was befriended by a Mrs. MacDermott-Roe, the wife of his father's employer, who apprenticed him to a harper and supported him for the three years of his training, then gave him money, a guide, and a horse. As an itinerant harper, he traveled widely in Ireland. Although never considered a master performer, he was highly regarded as a composer of songs and improvised verse. His tunes appeared widely in 18th-century collections.
